Our approach

concepts of ways to innovate

How should you innovate?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to corporate innovation.

Our diverse team of experts brings together decades of strategic innovation experience, across hundreds of collaborations with other global leaders. We are highly adept at injecting a fresh, objective perspective to complement your internal, industry expertise and strategic mix.

  • How can we innovate effectively for both sustaining new product development and disruptive innovation?
  • How can traditional ‘physical’ product companies successfully create digital/connected products and services?
  • How can we deliver effective employee-driven innovation despite the many other commitments colleagues have? How should our central innovation teamwork with brand-specific NPD (New Product Development) teams?
  • How can we successfully make the transition to agile innovation and ways of working?
  • How can we drive business growth without sacrificing the planet?

These are all examples of strategic challenges we’ve helped other leading corporations to successfully address.

How we work

A systematic approach to learning and change

Critical friend innovation review

Our role extends beyond consultation; we act as a strategic innovation partner, providing a valuable ‘critical friend’ perspective throughout your journey. This ensures your strategy is robust, your approach is effective, and your delivery is successful. We start by interrogating your current processes, structures, and results to understand where your innovation pathway has faced obstacles. We move on to an in-depth audit, allowing us to identify limiting assumptions and knowledge gaps – and agree together where your focus should be.

It was like being able to see the future – through the process we could see the challenges we’d face and what it would take to succeed before we started our journey. Without doubt, the project goal was met and this is now one of the biggest opportunities we have as a brand.

Learning exchanges with other innovation leaders

Our facilitation of exchanges with non-competing companies from our broad network provides a platform for your team to gain invaluable insights and actions that can be applied to your own organisational context; and together we can develop a custom framework and plan for your organisation.

This has been incredibly useful. I am filled with confidence knowing we have the best partner supporting us on our innovation process.

Head of Innovation, Pentland Brands

Strategy & planning workshops

Finally, we co-create with you an enhanced innovation strategy.

This phase is about cementing a plan that translates vision into executable actions, ensuring that your strategy, structures, process, and culture are aligned across the organisation and with the innovation outcomes you need for success. For example, to help build corporate innovation capability at Pentland Brands – the name behind some of the world’s best sports and outdoor brands including Speedo, Berghaus, Endura and Mitre – we established a central innovation group for the organisation and were able to facilitate collaborative meetings, leading to the definition of a clear vision and mission for innovation across its brand portfolio.

A recent example from a client’s perspective:

01: I had the pleasure of working with Alan and Ignite Exponential when my company was going through a big merger. The aim of the collaboration was to ensure we at C-level could learn as much as possible from companies that had gone through similar mergers and help us navigate through the complexities of merging without losing our innovation edge in speed and capacity.

Chief Innovation Officer

02: Ignite set up a series of meetings with non-competing companies over 9 months to candidly share learnings with like-minded peers and reflect on the successes, and failures, of their own transformations. It was a fantastic way for us to ensure we were on course and at the same time keep our teams motivated and the culture intact.

Chief Innovation Officer

03: Alan and team also made a very good briefing document at the end with the most crucial learnings for us to keep in mind over the next few months as the getting back to “normal” after the merger is still ongoing, I’d recommend Ignite as a partner to other organisation facing significant transformation.
